Sometimes the simplest things turn out to be the best; and this whimsical poster Winnie the Pooh Peace Poster is an excellent example of that statement!
Mouse and Kelley were a perfect combination and their partnership produced some of the most loved posters of the Sixties. While both were artists in their own right, the work they did in producing concert posters were much more graphic designs than the art pieces that were being produced by some of the other psychedelic artists such as Rick Griffin. None-the-less, they had the eye for the most catchy designs such as taking an old drawing/illustration out of the “Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam” and using it to produce one of the most famous and sought after posters of the Sixties – FD26, The Grateful Dead’s “Skull and Roses” - their art has stood the test of time with a style that is easy to recognize.
Now what could be better headline than “Peace” for a Sunday Afternoon at Mt. Tamaipais Outdoor Theater? For $2.50 you were going to be entertained by the queen of Folk “Joan Baez”, followed by Mimi Farina, The Grateful Dead and Quicksilver Messenger Service – those days unfortunately are long past, but as the closing line reads “and the cows are almost cooing, and the turtle doves are mooing, which is why a pooh is poohing in the sun”.
